Tatnell Wrap : Brooke Continues Brisbane Domination

Brooke Tatnell continued his domination of World Series Sprintcar competition at Brisbane International Speedway on the weekend earning his thirteenth career win at the Archerfield quarter mile dirt track.

“We have always been super strong at Archerfield.” Stated Tatnell.

“History will show that we have always run well there and at Avalon.”

So true in fact is that statement, that Brooke has won a combined total of 20 of his career 64 World Series Sprintcar victories at those two venues alone.

“I really like those tracks where you have to finesse and drive the car a bit.”

“Its funny, Archerfield was a place that Dad used to run pretty good at also!”

One the flip side, one track that Brooke is yet to break the ice at in World Series competition is Charlton Raceway and that is where the team heads this weekend for Round 2.

“I’ve always run pretty well at Toowoomba too, with a few seconds and other race wins that just weren’t World Series races.”

“One that really bugs me is the night we qualified on the front row back in the nineties with Garry Brazier and we got sent rear of field for jumping the start.”

“I still recall we almost got Garry coming out of four on the final lap and finished second from the back!”

Much has been hyped up about the nomination this weekend of Brazier yet again, but the media hype creates little concern from the Tatnell camp.

“It’s more hype from the media than anything else.”

“Look there is no doubt Garry will be fast, and he has the ability to win on any given night.”

“We have a lot of respect for each other but does it cause me to go..’Ooh Garry is here’, no it doesn’t”

Besides that, Brooke has many other things to keep his mind occupied.

The life of a World Series Sprintcars contracted driver must sound like a rockstar life, but for Tatnell, this is simply not the case.

“I am working flat out right now to get back into shape.”

“My fitness is one thing I have always taken very seriously.”

Not only is attempting to get fit a task in itself, the lingering effects of the serious leg injury sustained last year only limits the progress.

“I still walk with a degree of pain in my leg.”

“My fitness regime at the moment consists of walks along the beach and interval running in the mornings.”
“The next stage is jumping in the pool and clocking up the miles!”

The next few months is certainly about clocking up the miles, both on and off the track.

With the win in the opening round under his belt, Tatnell now looks forward to the future with an even greater goal.

“I have said in the past I have played safe to win Championships but I just don’t think you can afford to do that this year.”

“Besides, I am hell bent on breaking my win record for a year. The most wins I have in a season is 10.”
“This year I am gunning for 11!”

In short, it’s 1 down and 10 to go, and with a strong record at Toowoomba, this weekend could easily be win number two.
