The Legend - George Tatnell The legendary legacy of Tatnell Motorsports has become synonymous with the sport of Australian speedway for over 40 years. When George, brother Joe & cousins Gary & Bobby first burst onto the speedway scene in 1958 at famous venues such as Windsor, Westmead & the granddaddy of all the Sydney Showgrounds driving stockcars, nobody could have imagined the dynasty that would eventually create history in world oval track racing.
From such humbling beginnings of working tow trucks around the clock through the week before pulling the motor out of the tow truck to place into Georges racecar to race on Sunday afternoon. Following the meeting they would return to the Highway Service Station on Sunday night to put the motor back into the work truck to be ready for work on Monday morning, to the motorsport mecca that is Tatnell Motorsports. George has always been a charismatic, walking advertisement for the sport of Australian Speedway, who’s contribution is there for all to see.
During his illustrious career, Gorgeous George as he was affectionately known achieved everything that the sport has to offer including 2 World Series Sprintcar Championship & four victories in National Championships becoming the first person in history to win National Crowns in both sprintcars & midgets. George has also been credited with introducing multi national companies into speedway through his unprecedented level of professionalism & marketing prowess.
